Special Olympics Ohio 2013 World Winter Games Athlete

Special Olympics Ohio is pleased to announce that Robbie Knodle, 26, of Hamilton County will represent Ohio and Team USA at the 2013 World Winter Games in South Korea.  Knodle is the only athlete from Ohio who has earned a spot on Team USA for these Games and is among the elite 151 athletes who represent the United States.  Knodle will compete in Alpine Skiing which includes the slalom, giant slalom, and downhill events.  The World Winter Games will be held January 29 – February 5, 2013.

Knodle trains and competes with Hamilton County Special Olympics.   Knodle started his skiing career on the slopes of Utah.  His family moved to Cincinnati in 2003 and he joined the Unified Ski Club.  Knodle has become a familiar face at the Special Olympics Ohio Winter Games where he has earned numerous medals over the years.  His participation and success at the State Winter Games played a part in his selection for the 2013 World Games.  In addition to skiing, Robbie participates in volleyball, aquatics, golf, and basketball.

Knodle will start his World Games adventure well before the actual trip to South Korea.  He and his fellow teammates, coaches, and management team members will head to Albany and Lake Placid, New York in December for the official Team USA Training Camp.  This training camp is the first time all of the members of Team USA will meet.  During training camp Knodle will get to know his fellow teammates, train on the slopes with his coaches, and participate in team building exercises.

In January, Knodle will travel to PyeongChang, South Korea for the Games with the Team USA delegation.  Over 3,300 athletes and coaches from 112 different countries will participate in these Games with athletes competing in eight different sports.  This will be a once in a life time opportunity for Knodle to compete in a truly international sports competition.

Knodle is a graduate of Sycamore High School and he is employed by The Kroger Company.
