State Basketball Tournament

On March 30-31, 2012 teams from Ohio took to the courts in Tuscarawas County area as Special Olympics Ohio presented its own version of March Madness.  The tournament consisted of 26 teams competing in semi-finals and finals across eight divisions. In addition to the team tournament, nearly 300 athletes competed in the Basketball Individual Skills Contest. Thanks to the Tuscarawas County Board of DD for hosting this Championship event.

State Winter Games & Scarf Project

The 2012 State Winter Games took place on February 1 – 2, 2012 at the Cuyahoga National Park, Brandywine Ski Resort, and Kent State University.  Nearly 200 athletes and 70 coaches traveled to the Cleveland area to participate in Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Figure Skating, and Speed Skating.  Despite the lack of snow, the Games went off successfully thanks to the volunteers, coaches, and hospitality of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Kent State University.  The 2012 Winter Games also marked the 2nd year for the National Scarf Project, which provided over 900 scarves to all athletes, coaches, and volunteers.  Special Olympics Ohio would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to make scarves for our athletes.
