State Winter Games February 3 and 4 in Northeast Ohio

More than 200 athletes are expected to participate in the 28th annual Special Olympics State Winter Games, to be held Wednesday and Thursday, February 3 and 4, at Brandywine Ski Resort, in Peninsula; at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, in Brecksville; and on the Kent State University campus, in Kent.

Opening Ceremonies are scheduled February 3 starting at 5:30 p.m.

Special Olympics athletes from Ashtabula, Clermont, Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton, Lake, Lucas, Madison, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark and Summit counties are set to compete in Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Speed Skating and Figure Skating.

Alpine Skiing events are at Brandywine. Time trials are Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. Finals in the glide, giant slalom and Unified events are Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. Finals in the slalom and downhill events are Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Nordic Skiing events are at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Ledges Area. Time trials are Wednesday at 11 a.m., with finals in the 500 meters being held the same day at 1:45 p.m. Finals in the three-kilometer, 100-meter, one-kilometer and unified events are Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

A combined awards ceremony for Thursday’s Alpine Skiing and Nordic Skiing finals is Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at Brandywine.

Figure Skating and Speed Skating events are held at Kent State. Figure Skating skills are Wednesday at 9 a.m., while Figure Skating compulsories are Wednesday at 10 a.m. Speed Skating finals are Wednesday, also at 10 a.m. Figure Skating finals are Thursday at 9 a.m. The awards presentation for Figure Skating finals is Thursday at 1 p.m. Speed Skating awards are presented Wednesday following the finals.
